For this project I took a KFC box measured it up to create my template, when I did this I changed the box so it better fit what i was using it for, I added a few inched here, a few inches there, and changed a few aspects of the box so it was more had a more practical use.
Since I had the KFC box I didn't waste time on getting a printed folding dummy of my box because i thought they were close enough it wouldn't matter. I used the dummy to make sure specific design aspects we in alignment, such as the circles, and the chicken prints on the top of the box, so when it was closed it look great, and flowed together nicely.
I made the template in Illustrator, designed the chicken logo in Illustrator, and everything else, i.e. the circles and type, I did in Indesign.
I learned from this project, that nothing is as it seems and that you should always when possible create a folding dummy because they are extremely helpful, I used the one I had in more then one ways. Also, that having the ability to test out the folds, of the product, whether its a box, wedding invitation, desk calender, its always way for effective, even if it does take more time, and cost more money. The problems I had, were that I made the box deeper, which didn't affect much, but I also made it wider, so the flaps for the top and bottom should have been made wider as well, but I didn't take that into consideration, and didn't see that until I had the final piece printed, cut out, and folded. I knew immediately what had happened, but it was too late. So in the future I will do this for myself, and recommend for others, to always to a folding dummy, of exactly what your template is that your using, if I would have done that I would have had a near perfect product.

Publication Ad: Follow Up
I learned, that you really have to take initiative, and that everything isn't always easy. One example was figuring out the bleed, and margins, and how its not always spelled out for you, and that a lot of the times as a designer you just have to figure things out on your own. I learned that Microsoft has their own tag and digital reader that can be uploaded to smartphones and computers, thought that was pretty cool. I had to do a lot of investigating, to figure out all about the Microsoft Tags because i had never heard of them, and since they are customizable you have to read the terms and usages to see what kind of things you can change and what you cant. I used a picture of myself that my fiance took of me, and took it into Photoshop and changed the color mode to duotone, where i changed the two colors to black and Pantone 2935 C. I also downloaded a customizable black and white Microsoft Tag, which i placed a Pantone 2935 C box behind the black and white dots do help it blend in with the rest of the publication. I chose Pantone 172 C, also from a PMS printed booklet, for the type on the page, i used a free font i downloaded, called subway. I gave the type on the publication ad a drop shadow, its not very noticeable but if you take it way you can really tell how much it helps the type Pop off the blue and black duotone background. All in all I'm very satisfied with this project and is definitely my favorite so far.

Final Project Ideas
I knew right way the purpose, get people to eat chicken, call to action was about the same, eat chicken! My target audience was people who love chicken! And my printing specifications, was that my max page size was 12X18, because that's the max page size at QuickPrint here on campus. This present a problem because i wanted a large box, so the solution I thought of was to use two pages, and glue them together, after I cut them out, this allowed me to significantly increase the size of my box.

Publication Ad
The target audience I chose for this assignment is basically anyone who travels. Call to action, would be to learn, by using the Microsoft tag, talking with someone or going to a store and talking with an associate/sales person about the device.
I chose Travel + Leisure Magazine, here are the requirements

Old vs New
Choose a nationally recognized brand who recently revealed a new logo (Starbucks & JC Penney) discuss why they chose a new look, how this has been implemented, you personal thoughts on old vs new.
I chose Walmart, because I think its one of the biggest/most expensive decision walmart made, and i feel like not that many people even notice they spent millions of dollars changing the signs on buildings, trucks, packaging, uniforms, etc.
The old logo :
This was chosen, to what i understand, to get people attention, big and bold, all caps trying to get out there, get that market, to sell themselves and make sure everyone knows about it.
The new logo:
This changed the whole way Walmart looks, acts, and works. This logo, says hey I'm Walmart stop on in. The sun burst, represents eco friendly, all about the earth, and the quality of life, and our environment.
I personally like the new and improved logo much better. I like what it stands for, and what it represents, verses the boldness of the old logo.

Direct Mail
This week we are doing, in collaboration with the variable data class, a direct mail piece. We were suppose to choose two different target audiences, and identify the call to action our piece would take. I chose to advertise to travel to Hawaii. My two target audiences will be newly weds looking to travel for their honeymoon and retirees looking to spend some quality time together seeing the sights of the world. Call of Action, is going to be to visit the website or local travel agent for details. The finished size will be 7X5 with a bleed on the front, all four sides, and no bleed on the back.

Call to Action/Overview
I'd like to be able to hand this notepad out to future job employers, get them interested in my, and my work via my blog. The purpose of this is to leave future bosses wanting to see more, luring them to my online portfolio. I chose squares, and boxes to represent the box that everyone is always trying to think outside of, this is me showing all the boxes I've been inside, and outside of. The shades, and different sizes represent the different situations and ways a "box" that needs thought outside of can occur, different people and environments. I chose the text for my name because it was "boxy" and I felt it would flow well with the rest of the artwork, and the font for the information was for the same reason and the ease of reading it provided for the reader.

Self Promotional Notepad
Here are my thumbnails, the first ten were for class, we were required to hand draw ten, and hand drawing is not my forte so I did my best to get it over with. The rest are the thumbnails I did on the computer, trying different ideas and trying to see where this notepad was going to take me.
